Well Child Checkups · Salt Lake County
Midvale sits between our Southpoint and Cottonwood offices, and a third is only a few minutes farther.
We check your child's growth against their own history, examine them head to toe, test hearing and vision, work through the screening questionnaires that apply at their age, give any vaccines that are due, and talk about whatever has been on your mind at home.
We do not rush it. Most of what we find at these visits, we find because there was time to ask a second question.
A different clinician every year throws away the one thing that makes a growth chart useful, so we keep families with the same pediatrician or advanced practice provider between visits.
That provider also coordinates the rest: our dietitians, our behavioral health team, and specialists outside the practice.
This is the only appointment designed to find what nobody is looking for. We pick up anemia, hearing loss, high blood pressure, a mood that has slipped, and vaccine gaps that would otherwise surface at a school registration desk.
For working families the practical case is just as strong. A well-child visit is a planned half hour, and the conditions it heads off are the ones that otherwise arrive as an unplanned day off.
Follow the recommended schedule, which front-loads the first two and a half years and then settles into one visit a year through age twenty-one: newborn, two weeks, then 1, 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 24, and 30 months.
If getting away during the day is hard, ask for the first appointment of the morning. Those slots exist for exactly this and they are the easiest to work a shift around.
Call either office or request a visit online, and if you already see us, book at the front desk on the way out. Scheduling a year ahead sounds excessive and is the reason some families have never missed a visit.
Bring immunization records if you are new, any forms, and your questions on paper. Ten minutes into a visit with a toddler, nobody remembers what they meant to ask.
Most families here come to our Southpoint office at 9071 South 1300 West in West Jordan, about seven to ten minutes away: west on 7200 South, then down I-15 to the 9000 South exit. It sits right by the freeway, so the drive is short and predictable.
Our Cottonwood office at 301 West 5400 South in Murray takes about nine to twelve minutes, north on State Street from Fort Union. It is barely farther, and from eastern Midvale it is often closer.
Willow Creek on Highland Drive is the third, about nine to thirteen minutes east along Fort Union. From the eastern edge of the city it is the shortest of the three, and it is the only one you can reach without touching a freeway at all.
The honest way to choose is by which side of State Street you live on. West of it, take Southpoint and the freeway. East of it, take Cottonwood or Willow Creek on the surface streets. If you commute north in the morning, Cottonwood keeps you pointed the right way; if you commute south or west, Southpoint does.
You choose who your child sees. These are the pediatricians and advanced practice providers based at the offices below — tap a name for their background, training and the ages they see.
